(The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to which He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower) “Surat Al Baqarah (The Cow)”
Praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds, Prayer and peace be upon His messenger:
We are born with the virtue of compassion, and we are rewarded for it in this world and hereafter. Our Sharia (Islamic law) acknowledges this virtue and encourages us to obtain it. Those who are given the virtue of compassion by Allah, are given great benefits. The Charitable Fund for Patients Treatment is a good example of compassion. Hence, helping patients and supporting them on the expenses of their treatment is something encouraged by Allah and His messenger. Whenever a man is suffered from an illness or disability, he will be rewarded for that, whether he was a child or an elderly. And also those who participate in his recovery, expanses, treatment, care or consolation will be rewarded.
This Fund was established by HRH Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz as a caring touch to enable needy patient to benefit from Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City potentials for free. The basic system of the Fund gives an opportunity for generous people to participate by donations and Sadaqa.

Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Foundation had noticed that some patients who seek treatment and rehabilitation at Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City can not offered the expanses of their treatment and rehabilitation. Also it received various inquiries from generous people regarding participation in this humanitarian field. From this point the Foundation has found a charitable way to help these needy patients. It found that the best way to achieve this is establishing a Charitable Fund where generous people can participate in helping the patients with the expanses of their treatment and rehabilitation as well as studying the conditions of disabled people who seek treatment.
This issue was submitted to the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, where they supported this idea and decided to establish (The Charitable Fund for Patients Treatment) during the meeting, which was conducted on the 25th of Ramadan 1424H, and they form its basic system and the Board of Directors, to achieve these goals.

Praise be to Allah, and his last Messenger Mohammed;
I have seen the question submitted by the Charity Fund for treating patients, of SULTAN BIN ABDULAZIZ AL-SAUD FOUNDATION. Which states that the Fund administration has received many inquiries about the possibility of receiving Zakat in order to use it treating the poor, as the Fund is aiming to help the poor who are not able to pay for the expenses of the treatment, devices, aids or artificial lambs that they really need.
The Fund is managed by a comprehensive institutional system, which is supervised by an executive committee of eight members including specialists community leiders and respected thinkers. The Fund money is spant according to certain mechanism and regulations, such as a report about the patient, from a certified authority or legitimate judge with a medical report from two consultants in Sultan Bin Abdul-Aziz City that confirm the need for treatment.
After long thinking about this question, I found this Fund can receive Zakat money to help in it treating poor Muslim patients or buying their needed devices, aids, artificial limbs, etc. Because the poor are one of the categories mentioned in Zakat verse and medical treatment is considered essential for the poor, that wonders him eligible to Zakat just like, food need and housing. The late Grand Mufti, Mohamed Ibn Ibrahim Al-Sheikh (God bless his soul), issued such Fatwa, where he mentioned in his Fatwa “No. 4/ 135” that its permissible to pay Zakat to an injured poor, as a fee for the physician who will treat him, and such Zakat is given to him to pay for his expenses and medications and also to support his family in accordance with the verse: “ ..Alms is for the poor and needy …” That is what I see may Allah reconcile us. And grants success.
Peace be upon our messenger Mohammed and all his followers.
